Would you like more sources of information?

Sometimes is difficult to learn a new language. Mainly when we do not have where to find written or spoken materials in this language. But things changed nowadays, mainly after the internet invention. And a good prove of that is the number of websites. On websites you can find all kind of news from almost all places in the world. It happens because people want to make their voice heard all over the place. Doesn´t matter if it is for a good or bad reason. Anyway, fortunately now we have the opportunity to get news from all places at the same time and with this improve our learning of a foreign language.
To help you with this task with english I´m posting now some websites I usually go for news and useful information.

Here they are:
- Independent media center

The difference between the voiced and the unvoiced sound

Many consonant sounds come in pairs. For example, P and B are produced in the same place in the mouth with the tongue in the same position. The only difference is that P is an unvoiced sound (no vibration of the vocal cords) while B is a voiced sound (vocal cords vibrate). Put your hand on your throat as you say the pairs below to feel the difference. (Explanation from - http://www.elearnenglishlanguage.com/esl/pronunciation/consonantsvoiced-unvoiced.html)

Certain pairs of consonants can be problematic for some learners. In some cases, the main difference between the pair is whether the consonant is voiced or unvoiced, that is, whether or not the vocal chords vibrate when making this sound.

* This discovery activity can be used to help learners notice the difference between voiced and unvoiced consonants. Begin by asking learners what noise a bee makes. As they make a buzzing noise, do the same and put your fingers on your throat, indicating that they should do likewise. This will allow them to feel the vibrations of the vocal chords that occur with voiced consonant sounds. Ask them if they can feel the vibrations.

* Then focus on a voiced / unvoiced pair such as s and z. Make the sounds with your fingers on your throat, indicating that the learners should do the same. You can help learners with this by getting them to make the 'bee' sounds for z, and the sound a snake is supposed to make for s. Ask them when they feel the vocal chords vibrate - with s or z? (The answer should be z). Tell them that this is the main difference between the two sounds, and that z is voiced while s is unvoiced. Practicing Pronunciation

Hey guys,

Talking about pronunciation now. ]

I found a funny website you can practice the phonetic symbol by playing some games.
There you go - http://cambridgeenglishonline.com/Phonetics_Focus/
Another one you can go for - http://www.oup.com/elt/global/products/englishfile/intermediate/c_pronunciation/

Usually students complain about the phonetic symbol because they aren´t an extremely necessary part of the learning process, but if you know them and how to use you do not need any help to pronunciate works you never see before. Just read the phonetic symbols and it´s done. After learning the phonetic symbol you will be able to ready any word on a dictionary!

Have fun!
See you in class.

Homework - week 1 / ADV - 6

Hello Girls,

Welcome to our web blog. Here we going to share influences and knowledge, and also do our homework.
The first part of your homework will be related with the lyrics I gave to you in class. Below you can find U2´s video, of the song I still haven´t found what I´m looking for.
What I want you to do is:

Create 3 questions for some of the tenses Bono(The singer) sings using the Present Perfect. Doesn´t need to make sense with the song, and you can add to make it looking like a dialogue. See the example.
Question: Hey, I saw you reading a book about art. Have you found the kind of technic of art you need?
Answer: No, I still haven´t found what I´m looking for.

If you able to do different questions for the same answer, you can do so.

The second part of the homework is about vocabulary and understanding.
Do you remember I wasn´t sure about the difference of skating and skatebording. Well, Basically the difference is because skating doens´t use a board while skatebording does. The word SKATE means move along or to glide(or slide). Your skate may be an ice skate, a roller skate and also a skateboard.
Your homework for next class(thursday) is to identify the action the rider does. Attention, you not suppose to describe the tricks, just to write down what the rider is doing while he skates. Like this (but in English) - Pula, gira, torce, desliza e etc ....
And also I would like you to answer the questions below. You can do a full text or divide it in questions.
Have you ever seen somebody skating like that? Is he good?

Is this video true? Could the rider learnt to skate as good as we see just in a short period of time?
Are you able to do the same?
Which other sport would you like to learn as good as the skate rider? Why?

That´s it girls!
Have a nice weekend.
See you in class,
All the best.

Homework - week 1 / UPPER - 1

Guys,

I just found a nice website. It´s a nice hint to improve english by yourselves.
The website is the http://www.engvid.com/. To motivate you to use it I would like you to watch the video below and try to use the 3 ways why we use the present simple (permanent situations, general true and routines). And also I would like you to make a sentence using the present continuous or present progressive (for something is happening now and is temporary).

The video above is part of the second homework you have. I would like you to see it and answer the questions below:
- Do you eat any of these food?
- Why is it good?
- What does it has (Vitamins, proteins, carbohydrates, fat, oil, salt, preservatives, etc)
- What does the video talks about, food energy (calories) or food elements (as vitamins)?

All answers must be posted on internet as a comment.

See you in class.

Take care
